Ancient Wisdom for the Future Church
Learning from the Church at Antioch
August 2024 Sermon Series
Join us this August as we explore Ancient Wisdom for the Future Church, a four-week sermon series based on the vibrant congregational life of the church at Antioch as told in the book of Acts.
In Acts 11, we get the first description of church life outside of Jerusalem. Antioch is the first place where followers of Jesus were called “Christian.” But, more than that, the church at Antioch represents a healthy and mature church. They were a local church that provided a space for personal spiritual formation. They were a generous church, meeting the needs of people around them. They were a unified church, working diligently to protect that unity in the midst of a very diverse community. And they were a globally minded church, sending out people who were called to take the Gospel to places and people around the world.
Over these four weeks, we will spend some time reflecting on this ancient church and consider the wisdom that they offer us as we continue to grow into the mature people that God has called us to be.
